Whittington Interceptor Sustainable Agriculture Land Treatment Society (WISALTS)
The Whittington Interceptor Bank surface and sub-surface water management system is designed to control surface and sub-surface water flow on the catchment. These flows account for up to 85% of the water; with only 15% water flow on a catchment being deep groundwater. Harry Whittington realized that it was vital to catch rain where it falls and the system prevents water moving downslope taking with it humus, organic material, phosphate (from fertilizer), soluble salt and other nutrients necessary for plant growth.
Once the system dries out the valleys, nature can begin the reclamation, aided by oxygen and aerobic soil animals.
WISALTS can claim to have not only stopped salt land degradation but to have returned affected land back to full agricultural production. We, as an organisation are happy to discuss our technology and to provide practical demonstrations in the field. Contact
The Whittington Interceptor Sustainable Agriculture Land Treatment Society (WISALTS) promotes long term, sustainable agricultural practices through:
Control of surface and sub-surface water flow on-farm with the aim of:

The Whittington Interceptor Sustainable Agriculture Land Treatment Society (WISALTS) promotes long term, sustainable agricultural practices through:
Control of surface and sub-surface water flow on-farm with the aim of:
- Reducing and eliminating waterlogging in the valley floor
- Improving productivity
- Reclaiming salt affected land
- Reducing the use of super phosphates and other inorganic fertilisers
- Balancing the eco-system
- Increased production
- Reduction of water erosion possibilities
- Filling of dams with fresh water
- Shelter for stock
- Encouraging efficient contour work in the paddocks.
